　　今天参加了Riverbed公司(纳斯达克代码：RVBD)的广域网加速设备---Steelhead的技术交流会。

　　简单说，Riverbed公司的Steelhead设备可以在不增加带宽的情况下，解决带宽、应用、存储等一系列问题。Steelhead系列设备能将现有的分布式IT系统的吞吐能力提高达100倍之多，这就意味着企业甚至能在广域网上实现类似于局域网的应用性能。

　　据Riverbed的工程师介绍，Riverbed的核心技术是“可伸缩的数据索引”，数据优化通过使用一种专属算法，将数据分割成多个可参照的小数据块，即数据碎片化。进行动态切割。一个碎片一个标记，并存储在Steelhead设备。文件第一次通过网络传送时，其所有数据和索引链发出请求，在硬盘中储存。把碎片加指针进行传输，巧妙的办法就是将指针作为原始数据，再进行碎片化。当传输文件时，不是对文件进行操作，而是对历史的所有碎片进行操作，系统对碎片不断进行记忆，后面可以引用前面的碎片。这样，有些看来是第一次传输的文件其实并非第一次传输，所以传输速度快很多。

　　举个例子，一个10M大小的电子邮件附件，同时要抄送给外地某分部门的3个人，就算能够将其压缩到1M，也需要在广域网上传输总共3M的数据。而使用Riverbed公司的Steelhead设备后，只需在广域网上传输1M数据。

感觉不就是一个大的缓存吗？
当TCP的包从广东传出来后，到Steelhead为止，设备把这些包打开，将数据拿出来，切成碎片，这些碎片有一部分是以前已经存在的历史碎片的记录，将碎片配以指针，再进行TCP打包。这就可将10，000个包变成100个包，大大缩短了延迟。

这段话有点离奇，能解析一下吗？10，000个包变100，包大小呢？以太网最大包数据1500字节，我就不明白10，000个1500字节包，怎么变100个？难道这些普通数据包里的data都是0在填充？
